New Phenom X4 CPUs Debut

The final stepping revision (B3) of the Phenom X4 processors have been released on NewEgg.  The new processors from AMD have a xx50 model numbering scheme meaning that the dreaded TLB bug in the original Phenom CPUs is now entirely fixed.  If you have been waiting to upgrade to Phenom, now is the time.  The prices are right and the performance is perfect.  Although these processors are arguably not as fast as their comparable Intel Core 2 rivals, if you have an AMD motherboard or you are just a fan of AMD, this is your best bet for high performance computing power.  I am going to buy one right away!!

Phenom 9750 2.4 Ghz

Phenom 9850 Black Edition 2.5 Ghz

*Also a quick note, you MUST have an AM2/AM2+ socket AMD motherboard WITH a very recent BIOS upgrade from your motherboard manufacturer that officially supports Phenom CPUs.  If you do not have this BIOS upgrade for your particular motherboard, you could see strange, poor, or no performance from the chip.  Be sure to look into it on the website of your motherboard.

AMD To Release New CPU’s

From PCWorld:

“After launching Phenom, AMD will offer a high-end Phenom FX (in one or two quad-core chips), Phenom X4 and Phenom X2 (in quad-core and dual-core), Athlon X2 and Sempron.”

I’m excited for the new Phenom chips and I want to see how they will match up to Intel’s superb Core 2 Duo chips.

New Fastest AMD Dual Core

AMD has released their fastest X2 processor to date. It’s the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ @ 3.0GHz with 2 x 1MB L2 Cache and Socket AM2 architecture. This thing will run fast and hot, but if you have the bucks and the need for speed, you’d better check it out:

new computer specs

So after years of wishing and saving and hoping I could build my own computer I finally got the chance to do it in December 2006. I wanted to build a computer that was fully prepared to work with Vista premium and any type of Linux OS. Here’s the rundown of my rig:

  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ @ 2.4GHz
  • ASUS M2N-E ATX Socket AM2
  • XFX GeForce 6800XT 256MB 256Bit PCI-e x16 GPU
  • Corsair XMS2 1GB module of 240 Pin DDR2 RAM (will add a second soon)
  • Seagate Barracuda 320GB Hard Drive
  • Sony 16x DVD+RW Drive
  • LG 16X DVD+RW Drive
  • PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610Watt power supply
  • NZXT Apollo Orange ATX mid tower computer case

I spent just about $1,000 including tax and I purchased everything from Newegg.com, which was a great experience. They ship fast and secure. They have great selection and very low prices compared to anywhere else.

I’m getting Windows Vista Business edition for free from PowerTogether.com and it should arrive soon. I’m most likely going to dual boot either Fedora Core 6 (maybe Fedora 7) or Ubutntu 6.10 on it as well. Should be good times. I think the combination of Linux and Windows gives me all of the functionality and versatility I need to get everything done.

I really enjoy this system, it’s really fast with the dual core AMD chip. Running Vista RC1 or Ubuntu on this thing is just sick. My rating on Vista is 4.5 only because they take the lowest sub-score and I only have 1GB of RAM. If I had 2GB it would be at least a perfect 5/5. The motherboard runs great and all of my components work very smoothly together. And they should, I spent months getting feedback and researching just the right parts to buy.

You can view my pictures of my computer on my Flickr photos on my sidebar. Enjoy!
